What Is EMDR Therapy?
EMDR psychotherapy is a specialized therapeutic approach aimed at addressing trauma, anxiety, and other mental health difficulties, including performance issues. This technique involves bilateral stimulation, commonly through eye movements or tapping, to facilitate the processing of distressing memories. We are here to provide support throughout this transformative process. Extensive research has been conducted on this method, and we are pleased to offer it to our clients.
What happens during CPT sessions for trauma?
In EMDR therapy, sessions are structured in a manner that differs from traditional talk therapy. During the initial visit or first few sessions, we will collaborate to identify your goals and create a tailored treatment plan. You will be instructed to establish a mental safe space if memories become overwhelming during a session. The therapist will then facilitate the process by guiding you through difficult memories while utilizing bilateral eye movements to help desensitize them. At the conclusion of each session, we will debrief on your experience. If the targeted memory has reached the desired level of desensitization, we can progress to addressing the next memory. If not, further work on the memory will be undertaken in future sessions.
